A service learning project is when students learn and incorporate community service. For my service learning project, I learned about Pear Deck, then presented this tool to a group of middle school teachers in a local school. Service learning is important to the teaching profession because it engages students and the community into learning. Through service learning, students become more engaged because there is a purpose behind their learning. Through this, students learn the importance of community service and can help their community by creating a community of learners. Presenting Pear Deck to middle school teachers fits into component 4D, participating in a professional community. By interacting with other teachers, I am able to participate in this community. More particularly, it fits into element 3, service to the school. Through this opportunity, I was able to help the school by demonstrating a technology tool for teachers to use in their classrooms. This service activity was simple to teach. I presented this tool with a colleague and we were able to give a clear presentation that adjusted to the teachers' needs.
