Artifact Description:
Remind is a website or app that allows for teachers to send messages to a group of students or parents. It has calendar alerts, chat options, and reminder text messages. Parents or students can receive this information through a text, the app, or email. To create a remind account, I went through a quick process that provided my name, school, and email address. Creating an account was quick and easy. After the class was created, I had a code that my students texted to 81010 and they were added to my class. To use this in my classroom, I will help parents and students use it by providing step by step instructions for joining the class either through an app, text message, or email. I will make sure to tell them the purpose of having a remind account. These purposes would be reminders of exams, special events, any help on homework, classroom dates, or other important information. Remind fits into component 3A because it assists communicating with students and having clear communication about important information. It would also help in assisting with homework problems by allowing chat times to answer homework questions in the evening.
Artifact Reflection:
Remind was very useful in sending reminders to a group of people. If I were to use it again, I would like to take advantage of the chat options or calendar options. Remind can tie into educational psychology because through providing extra communication, it shows that the teacher cares. Davis did research to prove that when teachers show that they care more, than students will respect the teacher more and want to work harder for them. I can use remind in my future classroom to encourage students, send out reminders, provide parents with information of classroom activities, and provide extra help in the evening for students who are working on homework using the chat option.
