Artifact Description:
Edmodo is a learning management system that allows for teachers to post notes, discussions, quizzes, and questions to students. It can be used for the discussion, quizzes, and questions features for formative assessment. The teacher receives the results and can view responses in order to guide learning in the classroom to what the students need as well as see which students were paying attention. This tool is easy for students to join and provides a news feed style look which makes it look more like social media. Students would like the interactive and social aspect of the classroom through Edmodo. To create this artifact, I signed up for a free account and created a class. After creating a class, I was able to make quizzes and posts and post them within the class. To have students participate, I will give them the link to the class, have them join, then set procedures as to how to utilize Edmodo properly. After setting these procedures, I would trust the students to follow the procedures such as graded responses and appropriateness of posts. Through the discussion, notes, and quizzes, formative assessments and information to students will be consolidated into one place and easier to find as a teacher and easier for the students to work with. This fits into component 3D because it is a source of formative assessment. I can use it to monitor students' learning which is element 2.
Artifact Reflection:
Making a class in Edmodo was easy, but creating posts, questions, and quizzes was not as easy. The website would freeze up and I had to delete all that I had typed. This may be a server error, but it caused me to dislike the source. I would like to try it again in the future to see if I have a better experience. Because it is a learning management system, it is difficult to tell how much use I will get out of it without teaching a class. I look forward to trying it in the classroom to see if it would be helpful or not. If I were to use it in the future, I would want to use it for a longer time and have students use it to see its full value. I can use it in the future to share with students notes to help them with their homework and provide a place for them to do some problems or ask their questions in a discussion style. This ties into educational psychology because it organizes information into one place for students to keep track of.
