Component 1A: Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy
What is it?
Component 1A looks into knowledge of prerequisite skills, content area, and pedagogy. Teachers must be up to date with all of this information. The three are equally important.
Why is it important?
1A is important because teachers must understand the progression of their content. They also must be able to connect their classroom to other classrooms as well as understand possible gaps in students' learning and be able to handle them prior to teaching content.

1 - Knowledge of Content and the Structure of Discipline
Teachers must understand every aspect of their content and how they relate to other areas. |
2 - Knowledge of Prerequisite Relationships
Teachers must know the prerequisite skills needed to learn and master a topic. |
3 - Knowledge of Content Related Pedagogy
Teachers must know many different pedagogies and understand which help students learn in general and in their specific area of content. |
